The Destination Cross River Roundabout – Calabar's Iconic Gateway

​The destination Cross River Roundabout is one of the most recognizable urban landmarks in Calabar, the capital city of Cross River State. Welcome, and thanks for joining us on the program Tourism Hub.

​Situated around the Technical Axis at the entrance corridor into the city, the monument serves as a symbolic gateway, welcoming visitors into Calabar, a city often regarded as Nigeria's tourism capital.

​The roundabout is strategically positioned along one of the city's busiest transportation routes, making it both a critical traffic control point and a vibrant cultural attraction. The monument is popularly known for its giant, signature "Destination Cross River" effigy, which beautifully reflects the tourism identity and aesthetic culture of the state. The structure was designed with artistic elements that project hospitality, beauty, and modernization. It is beautifully illuminated at night and surrounded by landscaped greenery, decorative lighting, and well-paved roads that significantly enhance the visual appeal of the environment. 

This roundabout contributes immensely to the charm of Calabar, a city widely celebrated for its cleanliness, environmental friendliness, and organized urban planning.

​Furthermore, the roundabout serves as a key intersection, guiding motorists, transporters, and commuters to various destinations. At this bustling "Technical Roundabout," travelers can easily board vehicles heading to Akwa Ibom State, nearby local government areas like Akamkpa and Odukpani, the popular Watt Market, or the renowned Atimbo Roundabout, making it an incredibly versatile transportation hub.
